HACCP Certification

We just put in a 2 day course on HACCP planning. HACCP stands for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points. This is a training that is focused on those wanting to process added value products towards USDA certification of safe local foods. Makoce Agriculture Development has a mobile poultry process that has been in use for local meat poultry development but our focus is to get the system to become a local a certified meat bird processor so that local foods can be attainable on the local market. This training is an Introductory first step towards developing a plan and we are excited to see the progress that has been created towards created a local food system on the Pine Ridge Reservation. We do have a long way to go to create such an accessible place but we are taking the steps and building the opportunities to do so. We need to put our basic human need of food access at the foundation of our existence. We should not see it as a commodity. We need to reconnect ourselves to our once thriving food systems and re-integrate that way of living with or modern times. This is what we are focused on doing through the access and opportunities of local agriculture and food systems!
